Dry Needling in East Baton Rouge
Momentum Chiropractic & Sports Rehab
Dry needling is an extremely effective, painless technique that uses very fine acupuncture needles to “deactivate” or “shut down” painful or knotted areas in your muscles. The needle can treat very deep parts of the muscle, which can help you achieve amazing pain relief that you never thought was possible.
How trigger point dry needling works
The small needles are inserted into the skin and muscle to release painful myofascial trigger points. The term “dry needling” is used because there is no solution injected into the body as is the case with a hypodermic needle during a flu shot. With dry needling, the acupuncture needle itself produces the treatment.
When repetitive or overuse injuries occur, inflammation can be produced from the damaged tissues. The aggravated area becomes hypoxic (decreased in oxygen) which causes the body to produce scar tissue. When we place a needle into muscle it will also produce a controlled lesion and cut between the individual muscle fibers. The body considers the needle as a foreign invader and will activate the immune system as a response. The cut muscle fibers also produce an inflammatory reaction that your body will respond to not just locally but all over the body to reduce inflammation systemically.
