My coworkers know all about Dr. Ashley because I brag about my fantastic chiropractor all the time. She’s been a real lifesaver this pregnancy. I can’t tell you how great it is to walk in with back pain and walk out feeling like I’m not carrying an extra 20-lbs around! My husband also sees her and says she is the only chiropractor he’s ever seen who effectively treats both muscle and bone issues.
Active Release Technique (ART)
Active Release Technique in East Baton Rouge
Momentum Chiropractic & Sports Rehab
Active Release Technique (ART) is a type of therapy that works on soft tissue to relieve tight muscles and muscular adhesion to greatly reduce joint stress and muscular pain.
When muscles are overused pain and tightness is a direct result. These overuse injuries contribute to scar tissue formation, tears, pulls, strains and inflammation. Active Release Technique seeks to restore the normal mobility between muscle tissue and nerves.
How Active Release Technique Works
ART is a hands-on treatment that involves intense active movement-based massage treatments. ART differs from massage therapy in the use of movement of the spine or limb under tension. Instead of treating a general area, an Active Release Technique provider will use their hands to feel for damaged tissue in the muscle, fascia, tendons, nerves or ligaments. Abnormalities present as having a different texture and tension and affect the movement and function that a patient is able to perform.
Conditions we can help with Active Release Technique
- Overuse injuries (often as a result of repetitive sports injury)
- Carpal tunnel and other peripheral nerve entrapments
- Spinal pain and dysfunction
- Tendonitis and other soft tissue inflammatory disorders of the hand, wrist, elbow, shoulder, hip, knee, ankle, and foot
- Sciatica, TMJ, recurrent sprains and strains
ART can help to decrease joint stress and muscle tension
Active Release Techniques incorporates similar techniques to deep tissue massage and myofascial release because it works by manipulating soft tissue, thereby reducing stress placed on joints and nerves. But every technique differs and depending on the person, they may respond better to various treatments. Many patients begin to feel relief just after a few sessions, as the inflammation and tension in the body begins to decrease.
The goal of ART is to restore optimal texture, motion, and function of the soft tissue and release any entrapped nerves or blood vessels. This is accomplished through the removal of adhesions or fibrosis in the soft tissues via the application of specific protocols. Adhesions can occur as a result of acute injury, repetitive motion , and constant pressure or tension. ART eliminates the pain and dysfunction associated with these adhesions.
